If you are linking up, please include the below picture AND a link back to all four of our blogs – feel free to use the 2nd image and the links listed below!
Maybe not necessarily the Starbucks in hand but no list and no clue as to what you need but you know that you need groceries. Yep, this was me. Hubs and I had decided we were going to purge all the crap in our house and start fresh with healthy food because we are determined to get healthy so that we can get preggers.
Well, as I’m walking through the aisles, I start adding stuff in keeping a mental track of how much I am spending because I know how much money I have budgeted to spend. I also want to make sure I get the necessities to fill our pantry and fridge.
Eggs were a staple necessity. I plan to make some Doggie Crack this week (SO MUCH cheaper than buying dog treats- and healthier) as well as making some Hot Chocolate Brownies that we got on clearance after Christmas (yes, they aren’t healthy but he is taking them to work to share).
Healthy eating isn’t cheap but in the end junk eating isn’t either.
As you can see my basket is filling up. I got all the ingredients I needed for one entirely new meal for us- Crock Pot Hawaiian Pizza (Paleo friendly) as well as some of our last minute treats for New Year’s Eve (Totino’s Party Pizza and Pretzels for him- OJ to go in a Wine Mimosa for me).
Now, how does this relate to Math in the Real World? Well, first I had to stay in budget but also get realistic items for my family to eat and survive for the week. I will probably have to grab a few things but I hadn’t meal planned out the week persay so I was pleased to be $25 under budget when I checked out.
Second, I wanted to share with you the magic of using apps to help you shop. I have recently started using the Cartwheel App because we shop at Target and in just 2 months I have saved over $50. They are all things that I would purchase normally so that definitely makes me happy!
So maybe add to your resolutions this year to find ways to save some money here and there. I know that is definitely part of our goal for 2014 to lead us into a fantastic 2015.
