It’s the first Wednesday of January AND January 1st which means it’s time for our linky – Math IS Real Life and time to wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! If you joined in on our Countdown to 2014 Giveaway, stick around, we’ll be displaying the winner at the end of post!
If you want to see how the linky works, or just want other real world math ideas, check out our Pinterest Board of all the posts so that you can look back and find some great ideas and REAL pictures to use in your classroom!
If you are linking up, please include the below picture AND a link back to all four of our blogs – feel free to use the 2nd image and the links listed below!
Maybe not necessarily the Starbucks in hand but no list and no clue as to what you need but you know that you need groceries. Yep, this was me. Hubs and I had decided we were going to purge all the crap in our house and start fresh with healthy food because we are determined to get healthy so that we can get preggers.
Well, as I’m walking through the aisles, I start adding stuff in keeping a mental track of how much I am spending because I know how much money I have budgeted to spend. I also want to make sure I get the necessities to fill our pantry and fridge.
Eggs were a staple necessity. I plan to make some Doggie Crack this week (SO MUCH cheaper than buying dog treats- and healthier) as well as making some Hot Chocolate Brownies that we got on clearance after Christmas (yes, they aren’t healthy but he is taking them to work to share).
Healthy eating isn’t cheap but in the end junk eating isn’t either.
As you can see my basket is filling up. I got all the ingredients I needed for one entirely new meal for us- Crock Pot Hawaiian Pizza (Paleo friendly) as well as some of our last minute treats for New Year’s Eve (Totino’s Party Pizza and Pretzels for him- OJ to go in a Wine Mimosa for me).
Now, how does this relate to Math in the Real World? Well, first I had to stay in budget but also get realistic items for my family to eat and survive for the week. I will probably have to grab a few things but I hadn’t meal planned out the week persay so I was pleased to be $25 under budget when I checked out.
Second, I wanted to share with you the magic of using apps to help you shop. I have recently started using the Cartwheel App because we shop at Target and in just 2 months I have saved over $50. They are all things that I would purchase normally so that definitely makes me happy!
So maybe add to your resolutions this year to find ways to save some money here and there. I know that is definitely part of our goal for 2014 to lead us into a fantastic 2015.
Thank you to each and EVERY one of you who joined in on the giveaway each day to enter and gather up some great savings! I have loved reading all of your comments and really I do plan to go back and respond to more of them.
Without further ado…
So if you are Lauren O’Rourke and you left a blog comment, you will be getting an email from me today to determine if you would rather a $25 gift card to Teachers Pay Teachers, Amazon or Starbucks!
And because I love my followers so much and I don’t want you to miss out on anything that you might need between now and the start of the second semester….
