This past weekend I posted a list of the ten reasons that I feel lucky. I knew right away that I wanted to do a layout to document what I was feeling lucky about now in my life versus in the past or future. And then, when I saw the Reader’s Challenge at Simple Scrapper, I knew this was perfect for this month’s challenge.
First thing I did was pulled out some photos to go along with part of my list. I had a 4″ x 6″ (our land), a 4″ square, a 4″ x 3″ and a 3″ square. I found a sketch in the Designs by Ashley Rock Sketch book that I could make work. I cut down the 4″ x 6″ photo to a 4″ x 3″ photo to make a nice straight line across. I played with the journaling card and found it’s home near the bottom.
The base of my layout started with a sheet of Kraft cardstock. I then layered it with a sheet of Core-dinations Tim Holtz Kraft Core cardstock. I am in love with this stuff and am going to need to get more and find my sander.
Next comes the details! First thing I did was grab my Bitty Grunge Tim Holtz Stamps set. I grabbed the rays stamp set and painted it with Wicker White acrylic paint. I then also grabbed my Crafter’s Workshop Punchinella stencil and taped it down with Tissue Tape {thanks for the tip Chelle}. I tried to go light on the paint but in some areas, I didn’t do so well. I made it work for me though.
Next up was embellishing little areas. I used my new labels from Paper Dozen’s Etsy Shop and cut the bottom part of it off to use elsewhere. I tied some Cappuccino twine from The Twinery around the label and added some brads from my stash.
I then accented the other painted area {same stamp set} with a glittery button, tied with Peapod Twine from The Twinery, and some more brads.
The bottom area of my layout where I had painted with the Crafter’s Workshop template, need some love since I hated the way that the paint was looking. I decided to put my title down here in different alphabet fonts. I didn’t have a good green font that I had enough letters of so I grabbed the cream letters from Basic Grey {love their letter stickers} and colored it with a Green Letraset Marker. Love how this turned out and have used it on a few things since then.
I love the way the journaling area turned out as well. I layered the branch with leaves behind the journaling card and added the extra bit of the label to the journaling card. I used another stamp from the Bitty Grunge stamp set and stamped two stars to symbolize my hubby and I. The one that is lighter, I just outlined with a Bic Ultra Fine Marker in Tuxedo Black. I rounded it out with some more Cappucino Twine from The Twinery.
I would love to see some of my readers join in on this March Reader Challenge. The prize of credit to Persnickety Prints isn’t too shabby! I know that I could always use some! 🙂
