Crafty Chica’s Miss Scarlet’s Guide to Patternless Sewing

A few weeks back, I was asked to be a part of a blog tour to review a new book by Crafy Chica herself, Kathy Cano-Murillo. I have been a fan of Kathy for at least 4 or 5 years now when she started her Crafty Chica podcasts on iTunes and listened to them religiously!

For my first post (of three) to go along with Miss Scarlet’s Guide to Patternless Sewing, I decided to ask Kathy a question and she graciously wrote back. The question I asked was:

“How do you stay motivated to not only write books, lead a busy life as a celebrity crafter, but also find time to craft?” Here is her response…

The art of inner motivation! I am a person who is always 100% motivated to follow through on the projects I love. That is the secret. It’s like magic angels fly around me to make ideas happen and then carry them away to where they need to go. However, I can’t force motivation orlove. There have been times when I’m working on something and nothing is clicking, it feels like everything is wrong. I finally step back and realize that it’s because I really am not interested or invested, it is not part of my “big picture” and my gut/intuition recognizes that.

OK, even when I’m working on projects I love, there are still challenges. But when I’m able to fully visualize the end result – that pushes me to keep going. When I can’t “see” that end result, it means my heart isn’t in it and I need to move on from that situation.

For example, I’ve always had a dream of writing novels. I visualized walking into the bookstore and seeing my book on the front table. To make that happen I had to start as square one – write! I knew nothing would happen unless I put action into it. I visualized writing, and then typing “the end”, then submitting and having an editor say “I love this!” It was a long road (six years total) but it happened.

My advice is to narrow your focus to what you REALLY want to make happen. Find those resources and zero in on taking action. Visualize and believe that you not only can accomplish it, but also deserve it! Know that your time to shine will come – as long as you have the magic ingredient…love!

I totally LOVED this book! I will tell you that it does have some great metaphors for life.

And to give you something else to check back for…. Kathy’s publishing company is giving me a copy of the book to give away to one lucky blog reader! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling what keeps you inspired to keep going each day. I will post the winner on Saturday!
