Start to FInish- My Man and His Dog

This week’s Start to Finish bring some tips on how to use The Crafter’s Workshop Stencils that are all over the place these days. I just recently purchased the Chicken Wire 6×6 Stencil and wanted to use it right away. {Original plans were to use it on layouts about our chickens which still may happen.}

I started with a sheet of this light grey and white chevron paper from Crate Paper Paper Heart Collection.

Next up, I grabbed the Chicken Wire Stencil. And here is my first tip to you, when you are working with stencils, it works really well to tape down the stencil {I used Tissue Tape} so that it doesn’t move on you and also keeps your hands free.

I use a stipple brush to get lightly pounce on the paint. I learned this the hard way and it has worked perfectly every time! I also use a very light amount of paint. It’s easy to add more but you can’t take it away once you have put it down.

Next up, it was time to cut some papers to use in the background. The large yellow houndstooth paper from Authentique is cut at 8″ x 11″. The hexagon paper from My Mind’s Eye is cut at 3″ x 7 1/2″ before I cut it into the banner shape. I also inked the edges of the banner with Mustard Seed Distress Ink before placing it down into my starting point.

Next up it was time to embellish. I will say that I kind of got a bit ahead of myself here totally forgot to take pictures as I was going.

I grabbed a strip of the Authentique paper and punched it with a border punch and adhered the two vertical photos to the punched strip. I then tied some Charcoal Twine from The Twinery. I grabbed a Jillibean Soup Label and put it down to have a place to journal the where and when since the story of the layout had nothing to do with the day.

When it came time to decorate the border up, I grabbed a die cut from the October Afternoon Sasparilla Flower Sack and topped it off with a grey button and some more twine.

Next I grabbed a kraft tag and one of the mini yellow tags from the Martha Stewart Collection at Staples and added them to the top of the Chicken Wire painting area. I also grabbed the star stamps and stamped the in various spots across the page to create unity across the page.
