All in A Day’s Work {MIRL Linky}

It’s the first Wednesday of November which means it’s time for our new linky – Math IS Real Life. August and September and October were super successful!  We’ve even created a Pinterest Board of all the posts so that you can look back and find some great ideas and REAL pictures to use in your classroom!

If you are linking up, please include the below picture AND a link back to all four of our blogs – feel free to use the 2nd image and the links listed below!

Do you ever feel like you have no clue where your time has gone? One day last week I made a point to write down things that I was doing at different times during the day so I could see what I was doing and where all of my time was going.

Now remember, I work from home and am spending a lot of time in my office as well as doing regular household things. After tallying up my day, I learned that I spent 9 hours of my day sleeping, 3 1/2 hours on email and social media, 2 hours working around the house, 5 hours working on samples for my latest bundle of Interactive Notebook activities, 2 hours eating and then finally 2 1/2 hours relaxing with my husband which also turned out to be time to pass out candy to the Trick or Treaters.
Now out of my day, it seems that I spend the majority of my time sleeping because most of my business work was split into social media or working on samples (sometimes creating) and I spend the least amount of time eating and working on my house (although I should probably clean more…).
Now, how could you use this in the classroom? Well, I have used activities like this with my students to be a data gathering activity before we discuss elapsed time, graphing or even converting to percents. Students LOVE being able to relate their REAL LIFE to math and this is an easy way to do just that.
FREEBIE- What's In A Day?
And I”m not going to leave you empty handed so feel free to pick up this FREEBIE that I made called “What’s In a Day?” so that you can use it in your classroom. I kept the data gathering sheet pretty simple so that it could be used in a wide span of grades without fail.
I would LOVE to see what you do with this so please leave me a comment if you plan to use it and I do hope that you blog about it with pictures.
Off to check out my other Math In Real Life buddies and see what they have bee up to!
